Our Roots [About Us]

Nando’s journey began in 1987, in the heart of South Africa’s most vibrant city, Johannesburg. Robert Brozin, a Portuguese national, and his South African friend Fernando Duarte were two friends who shared a passion for good food. Together, they decided to turn a modest Portuguese restaurant into a one-of-a-kind restaurant chain. The outcome? Nando’s About Us, a chain of restaurants that celebrates the culinary heritage of both Portugal and Africa.

Peri-Peri: The Heart and Soul of Nando's

At the heart of Nandos About Us unique flavour profile lies a fiery pepper known as the “Pepero” or “Peri” as it is known in Mozambique. This fiery pepper is at the heart of our mouth watering, signature sauce. For over 30 years, we have been honing our recipe for Nando’s Peri-Pepero sauce to deliver an explosion of flavour with every bite. Pepero chili pepper is one of the most popular peppers in Mozambique and is native to the country.

Our Menu

Nando’s menu is a fusion of African and Portuguese flavors. Our flame-grilled chicken is our star dish and comes in a variety of spice levels to suit all tastes.
